(...) “Notes on Belonging could also be the title for a life's work that has evolved from dance and body work into the visual arts, and which, with different approaches, repeatedly seeks out places and moments of harmony with the world.

What Andrea Morein presents are visual records of questions of being and the longing for belonging in a present in which the artist experiences that, due to the events since October 7, 2023, her ‘belief in established structures has been shaken to its very foundations.’

She has arranged them dramaturgically in the three rooms of the K52 Foundation as a triad of earth, humanity, and sky.”      (From the introduction speech by Almut Hüfler)

Notes on Belonging consists of three distinct groups of works, each assigned to a space in the gallery. Each chapter explores the theme of belonging from a different perspective, both in terms of attitude and visual techniques. My artistic practice seeks to connect the reflective and the expressive from an embodied basis, which is also true of this project.

Notes on Belonging is an exploration of ethical values, cultural heritage, intimate experience, and socio-political engagement. I therefore address the aforementioned themes within an open field of visuality—in this case, rooted in my cultural origins. The project also reveals affinities with various art traditions, such as Abstract Expressionism, Arte Povera, and gestural drawing, each of which can be assigned to a chapter. (...)

The works also have architectural aspects, like totems of connection. Forms born from a longing for belonging and, simultaneously, permeability.
